The Loggia delle Muses seen from the outside is an excellent example of Giulio Romano's architecture. The systematic use of bossage creates a dynamic surface, and a play of light that brings the palace to life in summer and in winter, and at night, when the moon is shining. The materials used to cover the external walls in fact seem to capture the natural luminosity of the surroundings, thanks to the different layers of stone. The overall impression is one of geometrical rigour, the structure of the palace is readable at a glance.
