Dokdo was formed about 400 million years ago by eruption of under sea volcano. Dokdo has been called a golden fishing ground due to rich marine resources, and also has vast natural resources in the base such as natural gases and gas hydrates. Various animals inhabit in Dokdo such as tide pool gunnel in the intertidal zone of Dokdo, black-tailed gull, Metridium senile, Rosy egg shell, rhubarb, Opalescent nudibranch, Common gorgonian, Hinge-beak shrimp, Club soft coral, Dictyota coriacea.
