For more than four decades, Edwina Hume Fallis delighted in teaching children by telling stories. As a child, she travelled to school on horse-drawn streetcars and witnessed Denver’s first electric lights.
Edwina earned her teaching degree at Colorado State Teachers College (University of Northern Colorado), and landed her first kindergarten teaching job at Denver’s Gilpin Elementary School in the early 1900s. Edwina and her sister Belle operated the Fallis Toy Store in their home, creating innovative educational toys and hands-on games. A gifted writer, Edwina published a bestselling memoir of her Denver childhood, When Denver and I Were Young, a teacher textbook titled A Child and Things, as well as hundreds of poems.
