The change in the angle from which Egidienplatz is viewed here highlights its unusual situation on a relatively steep slope. The complex, which takes its name from the Church of St. Egidius – originally the oldest church in the city – is flanked by the new Pellerhaus and the hitherto little-noted "Turmhaus." This small-format sketch illustrates the evolution of the city's architecture from the Baroque to the postwar design of the 1950s and what was known as the "Concrete Modern" style, which would gradually begin taking over in the 1970s.
