Wu Bin, born in Putian, Fujian province, was also known by his courtesy name Wenzhong, and his literary names Zhiyin, Zhiyin’antoutuo, and Zhianfaseng. He was a painter at the Emperor’s Palace (neiting) in the Wanli period, and the secretary of Gong Bu Ministry of Works. He excelled at landscape painting and was particularly good at figure painting. The Buddha images and human figures painted by Wu feature unique appearances and forms, enabling him to stand out from the earlier painters.
