Hot Wheels Apptivity electronic game was a new toy in 2012. Mattel's Apptivity line features toys and games that crossover the boundries of traditional definitions. After purchase of the special Hot Wheels car, a user downloads the Apptivity app from the Apple iTunes store to an iPad notebook. During play, a track appears beneath the car which then "races" along the track, encountering obstacles and accruing point along the way. Part toy, part game, and part electronic game, the Hot Wheels Apptivity may represent a type of hybrid toy becoming more and more common.
