Nobel Peace Prize Nominee

INDUCTED 1996

Elise Boulding, a native Norwegian, moved to the United States at the age of three. By the age of 20, she was committed to peacemaking.

Elise and husband Kenneth Boulding founded the International Peace Research Association and moved to Boulder in 1967. She wrote extensively about conflict resolution in both personal and global relations and her academic work helped shaped the nation’s concept of peace studies. “War is not inherent in human beings. The culture of peace is something which is learned, just as violence is learned and war culture is learned.” -- Elise Boulding
