9th-century Arab vessel

In Andalusian times there was an important advance in navigation, due to the special peninsular situation of al-Andalus and the dynamic nature of Islamic society, in which travel for religious, economic and commercial reasons are very important. Among the innovations introduced by the Arabs in the vessels were the triangular shape of the sail, which allowed to overcome the winds against, and the stern rudder, which replaced the lateral oars.
