CERN

CERN
Geneva, Switzerland

The last tape recording data from the experiments of the « European Muon Collaboration” was taken in August completing eight years of operation. The most famous result from the experiments bears the name “EMC effect’, it showed that the behaviour of the quarks of the proton and neutron when they are bound in a nucleus is different from their behaviour in “free” protons and neutrons. This effect is not yet understood.
