In his most famous letter, of August 1730, Bach presents the Leipzig City Council with his ideas of "well-organized church music". Momentous cultural-political decisions to fill the vacant seats in the alumniate of the Thomanerchor had led to personnel bottlenecks at the cantata performances. Bach complains about the unsustainable situation and makes suggestions for improvement.
