Erie PA - Electric vehicle hauling coal in narrow veins far beneath the earth's surface. Designed by General Electric engineers, the coal carriers has treads like an army tank which permits it to turn easily in cramped areas. It has a movable snout, equipped with a continuous conveyor belt, which enabled it to unload its cargo. After being loaded deep in a vein by miners or by automatic mining devices, the carrier hauls the load to a principal tunnel, where the load is transferred to small railroads cars or belts conveyors.
