A teacher at RMIT, Paul Castro’s practice explores the artistic and socio-political implications behind upcycled fashion via the use of factory surplus or “deadstock”. Castro blends common fabrics with counter-intuitive contours for both provocative and highly compelling pieces. In this session, Castro focuses on pieces such as his innovative 8 Shirts Dress which reimagines waste as a resource to challenge the linear system of produce, use, discard.
