Mukundan Tampi1890

This painting, done in a very different style by P Mukundan Tampi, was specially commissioned by Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bai, who received a postcard from somewhere in Europe with a picture similar to this. She so fancied the scenery that she called in her palace artist Tampi and requested him to copy the image for her on canvas. Notice the minute details that Tampi has incorporated into this work - a couple of white 'mundus' that are hanging on the balustrade of the stairway leading down to the lake.
