Dress in black satin with machine-made tulle transparency, decorated with sequins and glass-paste bead appliqués. The tunic is long and has a rounded neckline at the front and back. It has long sleeves fitted snugly at the wrists with a zip. Fastens at the centre of the back with a zip and hooks. Lined with black rayon taffeta.

In contrast with the restrictive dresses of the fifties, in 1955 Balenciaga created the tunic dress, with a completely opposite concept. The loose style created a tubular modern silhouette which the couturier would use throughout his career. This evening tunic, made in Spain, stands out for the rich embroidered decoration, very much to the taste of Balenciaga.
