The hip-long bodice, with pointed neckline and short, straight-cut sleeves, displays delicate embroidery of flower and leaf ornaments in green and red tones that terminates at a serrated border. The skirt beneath is made of eight loosely swinging panels of fabric fastened baggily to the serrated hemline of the bodice. As early as 1920 Madeleine Vionnet designed emulated skirts of loose fabric panels that were an extreme novelty in their free and disjointed arrangement. This evening gown reflects the success of Madeleine Vionnet’s creations.
