Expressing Sartorially the Springtime of the Earth
Bakst, a stylist of the modern woman:
A manteau by the famed artist, who designed so many costumes for Ballets Russes.
Mister Léon Bakst has turned his attention to the creation of contemporary dresses. In a recent interview to Pall Mall Gazette he explained: “I turned to this theme following my work on Games, a new ballet by Claude Debussy, in which the music of the future attempts to express the ideas of the future… I wanted to ask Madame Paquin then to assist me in the creation of clothes for a modern woman… I wanted to express sartorially the springtime of the Earth… In my costumes, there is the purity of color, the impact of March, April, and May… My ornaments are slightly futuristic.”
Sincerely yours, Bakst, Madame Paquin, and Comedia Illustre.
