A physicist, he devoted himself to teaching, in particular as a professor of industrial physics at the Faculty of Sciences in Marseille. In 1921 he became a professor at the Sorbonne and director of the Institute of Optics. His work focuses mainly on optics. With Perot, he invented multiple wave interferometers, and discovered with H. Buisson the ozone in the upper atmosphere (1913). We owe him a universal photometer without a diffusing screen (1920). Member of the Academy of Sciences
