The lace is worked in needle lace ( point de gaze) and in bobbin lace in (point duches).
The combination of the two different techniques is typical of Brussels lace dating from the second half of the nineteenth century. The floral decoration in neo-Rococo style is typical of the lace from the 1870s.
The panel in white voile silk is painted in tempera with two putti playing in the clouds and signed “PB”. On the parts worked in bobbin lace are scattered sequins in burnished bluish metal, a distinctive colouring known as “claire de lune”.
