This is a fine example of the high quality wax dolls produced in England from the early 1840's. She is wearing a silk dress and matching bonnet trimmed with silk lace. The long 'V' pointed bodice trimmed with cord lacing was a fashionable feature of the 1840's. It is worn over a white cotton petticoat and white linen chemise. Wax dolls declined in popularity once bisque dolls began to be produced in large quantities in France and Germany in the 1870's.
