This finely woven black straw bonnet features a high, egg-shaped crown and wired brim. Embellished with two ostrich feathers dyed a rich pink.

The department store Henri Bendel, where this hat was purchased, was founded by its namesake, a milliner originally from Louisiana who moved to New York City in 1895. As the twentieth century progressed, the department store was one of the first in the United States to carry now famous designers, including Coco Chanel and Ralph Lauren. In the 1960s, Andy Warhol was an in-house illustrator for the department store.
