The fedora is a white felt hat with a triangle gutter-dent, side dents, and a brim, which is bent upward at the back. It originates from the so-called "Democrat hat," also known as the Hecker or Calabrese hat. It gained political significance in 1848 in the fight against absolutism and restoration, and became the hat of the bourgeois revolutionaries. As the broad brim conceals the face, it is regarded as a conspirator's hat.
