Excavations of the Koban necropolis, located in the mountains of the North Caucasus, have uncovered bones and funerary objects which give us a better understanding of the daily lives of these Europeans, some 3,000 years ago.
Grave no. 9, the only one entirely preserved in this necropolis, is the best example of Koban culture and its funeral rites. The high social standing of the woman was shown by the richness of the ornaments. The deceased was between 30 and 50 years old and her tomb contained ceramics and food offerings for use in the afterlife.
