Very early in its history, FIAT recognized the importance of motor racing, participating vigorously until 1927.
When a 200 hp FIAT won the American Grand Prix at Savannah, Georgia in 1907, a demand was created for this Italian car in the USA. As a result, a factory was built at Poughkeepsie, New York, where FIATs were built from 1910 until 1918.
