Field Party Surveying the Lake Tahoe Wagon Road

After acquiring the Lake Tahoe Wagon Road in 1895, the State of California began the long process of improving its first state highway. These photographs depict a 1907 road crew including future Secretary of State Frank M. Jordan (holding the shovel in the upper right-hand photograph) surveying the highway. The party traversed the route using the wagon shown in the bottom right-hand photograph. Identification Number: F3619:1
