Daffy Duck, a creation of Warner Brothers animation first appeared in Tex Avery's 1937 "Porky's Duck Hunt" as a foil to the studio's top star, Porky Pig. Daffy moved on to star status himself nine months later in Avery's "Daffy Duck & Egghead." Daffy's persona signaled a new type of cartoon character, the screwball, in contrast to the Everyman characters of Micky Mouse and Popeye, two popular stars of early 1930s cartoons. A duck of enduring appeal, Daffy has appeared in 100 animated cartoons and in various comic book series from 1959 to 1984 and again since 1994 in DC Comics's "Looney Tunes."
