Though typically thought of as a farm animal, the A. Schoenhut Company introduced the goat figure in 1905 as an addition to its Humpty Dumpty Circus play set. In actual circuses, goats often appeared in comical acts with clowns. In 1908, Schoenhut released a series of farm animals, as well as farmer and milkmaid figures, and the goat made a nice addition to this set as well.

Schoenhut made three different types of goats: glass eyes with v-shaped nostrils, painted or decal eyes with dots for nostrils, and a reduced size with painted or decal eyes. This full size goat has painted eyes. All goats had a leather beard, tail, horns, and ears.
