Yu-Gi-Oh!, a Japanese anime story, centers on students in the Duelist Academy of a future civilization. The Yu-Gi-Oh! story has been developed in comic books, TV series, movies, video games, and card sets, among other media. The initial series ran for five seasons on American television. In 2006, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX premiered as a spin-off of the original. The GX connotes a "next generation of duelists at the academy and permitted the creators to update dueling technology and modernize the series." The GX series has new characters--new students attending the school--and new villians, of course. One important character from the first series appears in GX, however. Yuki Muto, a student of long ago, reappears as a masterful duelist. To help the protagonist of the GX series , Jaden Yuki, triumph over the evil Shadow Riders, Yuki Muto gives Jaden the Winged Kuriboh card.
