Marguerite Abouet’s Aya de Yopougon a Film by Pierre Cherruau. Set in the 1970s, Aya de Yopougon takes you to the neighbourhood of Yopougon in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Nineteen-year-old Aya is a serious-minded girl who prefers to stay at home while her friends, Adjoua and Bintou, go out and get up to all sorts. In this drama-filled film, we witness Aya's coming-of-age and see how she copes with the complexities of adulthood.
