Wheellock double-barrelled pistol. Lock, double lock, dogs engraved with monsters' heads. Safety-catches to both mechanisms. Maker's mark BK over spectacles struck on lock-plate. Barrels, over and under arrangement. Upper barrel octagonal for 125mm, then round. Lower barrel octagonal throughout. Brass front sight on upper barrel. Nuremberg control mark surmounted by N on breech of upper barrel. Below, barrel-smith's mark in form of snake with initials HD. Stock, typical Puffer type inlaid with bone depicting fantastic animals and birds, grotesque heads, stylised flower and scrolls. Warrior in stylised classical armour standing between two columns under strapwork and engraved with Cupid asleep using skull as pillow, with candle and hour glass. In background Death holds drawn bow. Belt-hook missing. Iron trigger-guard. Trigger and ramrod both replacements. The lock is not the original one but may have been made up from parts taken from the original.
