This is a tall container made of bamboo or straw woven together in a round shape. It is used to keep or carry fish temporarily after catching them. Fish baskets are mostly round in shape and the edge of the basket was used as the handle after wrapping it with bamboo strips three to four times. Since the edge of fish baskets can easily fall out or break, sometimes it would be reinforced by attaching a long bamboo strip pulled from a bamboo blind. They are produced in various shapes such as a box, a pot, a cylinder, or a bottle. Some baskets have a handle made with strips. Today, fish baskets are made of plastics or synthetic resins in various colors and shapes, and used for multiple purposes. Since baskets made of bamboo or straw are highly hygroscopic, they must be washed with water and left out in a sunny and airy location to ensure that moisture is quickly dried off, in order to ensure durability.
