Manufactured by Favco Industries and installed 1963, the Fixed Tower Crane (C231) has operated as part of Cockatoo Island’s timber wharf and slipway area since that time. It was installed prior to the commencement of a major program of refitting of the Naval Patrol Boat fleet and was generally used to remove and refit the main diesel motors to the vessels. A large and visually dramatic crane which is associated with the operations of the timber wharf and the large Patent Slipway, particularly the overhaul of the Australian Navy's Patrol Boat Fleet. It provides evidence of these activities and is a unique member of the collection of cranes surviving on the Island.
