Ferdinand Braun surpassed the transmission power achieved by Marconi transmitters with a "coupled transmitter." The oscillating and antenna circuits, previously electrically connected, were now separated into a primary circuit consisting of a capacitor and spark gap and a coupled antenna circuit which was still only connected inductively. Braun later incorporated the rectifier effect he discovered on crystals as a detector.
