Flounce made of needle lace. Continuous flounce of fine Point d'Argentan with hexagonal mesh of brides picotées, the patterned areas outlined with a cordonnet worked over hair, and a variety of decorative fillings. Large-scale formal pattern based on contemporary lace-pattern silk designs. Lace-filled curving bands form two large compartments each containing vertical arrangements of flower filled medallions and swags of flowers. Large naturalistic sprays of fruit, flowers and gourds extend from the vertical motifs to link the pattern horizontally.
