Chan Chik (1918-2004) was mentored in painting by senior painter Xu Yong-qing from 1937. He engaged in anti-Japanese activities and joined legions in 1938. Later working as a war reporter for Ta Kung Pao in Hong Kong, he covered war stories in Eastern Guangdong, Chaozhou and Shantou. Chan has been a reporter and photojournalist for more than forty years. Apart from shooting features for newspapers and magazines, he also enjoys photographing across Hong Kong in his leisure. Chan has keen concern for everyday lives of the common people. His rich experience as a veteran photojournalist coupled with sharp acumen has yielded a large number of works with social colour. They faithfully reflect the lives of Hong Kong's grassroots.
