This tiered box in the shape of an elliptic cylinder is a portable food container with a lock. It is embellished with mother-of-pearl inlays of various shiny pieces and diamond shaped patterns. Each box has different motifs: in order from top to the bottom on the front, it depicts plum blossoms and a daffodil, a chrysanthemum and an orchid, clematis, and a kingfisher; on the back, it depicts nandina, a chrysanthemum and an orchid, morning-glory, and a cuckoo; on the top lid, it depicts a gourd.
