The energetic circling dance of the four Muses, clothed in wind-blown garments, is based on a drawing by Mantegna, who used this motif in the foreground of his painting with the Parnassus. He produced it, in 1497, for Isabella d’Este. Zoan Andrea is considered to be the only known member of Mantegna’s engraving workshop. (Sonja Brink)
