Four Vessels Running Before a Gale

Pieter Mulier the Elder1630

Hallwyl Museum

Hallwyl Museum
Stockholm, Sweden

This painting is probably an early work of Pieter Mulier. It can probably be dated to around 1630, on the strength of comparisions with Jan Porcelli´s and Claes Claesz Wou´s paintings “Ships in Storm on a Rocky Coast” and “Three Vessels in a Storm”, both in the collection of Hallwyl Museum. The painting is signed PM on the fore-ground.
