This fragment comes from a funerary shroud, which were often painted and wrapped around mummies. This particular shroud was created sometime between the fourth and first centuries BC, during Egypt's Greco-Roman period. It probably comes from the Ptolemaic period and it shows characteristics of cryptographic writing. Several words are written in unique and unusual ways. The shroud also has pictures of protective deities.
