The J. Paul Getty Museum
Los Angeles, United States

This fragment, probably once part of a statue, has a smooth, oval face and full regular features. The elongated eyes are well-defined, including thick eyelids with sharp edges and pupil, iris, and tear duct emphasized. The straight nose directly joins the eyebrow arches; the mouth has fleshy, parted lips, a sinuous profile, and small dimples at the sides. The gaze is slightly lowered. These features find parallels in Tarentine terracotta heads from the middle of the fifth century B.C.
