Fragment of silk from The Alhambra

1400 - 1425

Museo Lázaro Galdiano

The decorative strips are typical of the time of Muhamad V, thence they must have been woven towards the first quarter of the 15 th century. They were probably fabrics made for home furnishing, like curtains and drapery. However, taking into consideration that the Prado's Saint Catherine painted by Yáñez de la Almedina wears a shirt of the same kind of textile, it seems likely that they were used in the manufacturing of luxury clothing too.
