Beijing, China

In August 2015, a massive explosion hit the city of Tianjin. With a brass plate at the same size, Zhao Zhao reproduced a piece of broken glass at the explosion site, drawing memories back to the wreckage of the public catastrophe, and bestowing it with the eternal connotations of ancient Chinese bronzes.

Zhao recalls specific historical topics and memories through diverse forms. Constantly, he provides evidence of memories or echoes of the past, while overturning past perspectives and critical approaches at the same time. Like a CD processed continuously, it plays fragmented but acquainted melodies from reality, as well as bits and pieces in the repeated dreamland.
