Excerpt from a photographic album by Louis Chauvineau (1874-1969; X1895). During the First World War he first participated in campaigns in the Artois region. His army corps was commanded by General Pétain. In March 1916, he took command of the engineer of the 77th infantry division fighting at Verdun. He received the légion d'honneur the following month. In June he returned to the staff of the 33rd army corps, which was involved in the battles of the Somme in 1916 and the Chemin des Dames in 1917. In September, he was sent to head the engineering courses for the Greek army, where he also became head of the 4th bureau - in charge of transport and supplies -, returning to France in October 1918.
