Henry Gasser was born in Newark, NJ in 1909. He was a painter as well as an author.
Gasser studied at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, Grand Central School of Art, and Art Students League of New York.
Described as “a master at watercolor and oil,” the artist said his work depicted "everyday subjects that are available to most of us—street scenes, back yards, trees, old houses, etc—I looked for them in front of houses, in backyards, public parks, and elsewhere."
Gasser lived his entire life in Newark. From 1946 to 1954, he served as the Director of Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art. He continued lecturing at the school until his death in 1981.
In addition to The National Arts Club, Gasser’s work can be found in more than 50 museum collections and many private collections.
