The popular board game Battleship was first known as a pencil-and-paper game, played on gridlike sheets. Milton Bradley published a version on paper in 1931. The game bacame a household word, however, with the advertising campaign that accompanied MB's 1967 version. The advertising phrase that made its way into popular culture is "you sunk my battleship!"
