West End Games, previously a publisher of war games, began production of role-playing games in 1984 with the game Paranoia. West End introduced a precursor to its famous D6 dice system with the licensed game Ghostbusters--A Frightfully Cheerful Roleplaying Game, released in 1986. At first considered one of the few role-playing game publishers in serious competition with TSR, West End produced role-playing games successfully for many years afterwards. It is perhaps best-recognized for its trademark D6 system, which it introduced as a standalone RPG system in 1996.
