Galaxian was one of the earliest and very successful space-themed arcade games. Brought out in 1979 first by Namco of Japan and then Bally-Midway in the United States, it was meant as a direct competitor for Taito's 1978 game Space Invaders, also represented in the U.S. by Bally-Midway. The game remained popular for years and is considered one of the best games of the golden age of arcade games from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. A Post cereal premium from 1984 takes advantage of this popularity by interpreting Galaxian as a simple board game. The shooting action of the game is reduced to spin-and-move with playing pieces on the board. The game design features bright graphics and a simulated arcade game screen.
