Following the death of Walter Henry Rothwell in 1927, accomplished cellist and European conductor Georg Schnėevoigt became the second conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In the fall of that year Schneevoigt conducted his first concert with the LAPO on October 27, 1927. Schnėevoigt’s performances were often noted for the emotional zeal, especially in slow movements of Romantic works, but he was also known and acclaimed for his familiarity and accomplished performances of musical repertoire from all periods. Due to ill health, Schnėevoigt resigned his post as Music Director of the LAPO before the end of his second season.
