A landscape painter specialised in sea views, Macià Canturri Vilamala was born in Barcelona in 1868. He was a member of the Centre Artístic Sant Lluc and in 1918 he took part in a group exhibition that was held in the Sala Parés gallery. From then on he participated in many different exhibitions, obtaining a degree of recognition in Barcelona’s art world. In this painting, Macià Canturri depicts a beach scene with a female figure in the middle wearing wooden clogs and a handkerchief on her head.
