Born in Verona in 1481, Giulio Della Torre developed his interest in antiquities during his studies in Civil and Canon Law in Padua, where he came into contact with the workshop of Andrea Briosco known as il Riccio, one of the most important sculptors active in the city. .
The small bronze, from the Moscardo collection, represents a virile bust, with the head slightly turned to the right and an old-fashioned draped tunic.
This self-portrait is unique in the production of Giulio della Torre, who delighted in the creation of commemorative medals. It fits perfectly into the image of his personality, characterized by a strong self-love, so much so that the legend of two of his medals reads 𝙼𝙴 π™Έπ™Ώπš‚πš„π™Ό π™·π™Ύπ™½π™΄πš‚πšƒπ™΄ 𝙰𝙼𝙾.
