Pair of gentleman’s gloves, of English tailoring and dated circa 1610-1630. They are made of leather with large satin silk cuffs decorated with metallic and gilt thread embroidery [gold thread twisted on a silk core] depicting floral motifs; moreover, the entire mouth of the glove is decorated with a “puntos de España” bobbin lace with sequins. During the 17th century, this glove type became a truly luxury article because of its very high price, in turn, due to the complex elaboration process and –in many cases- the wealth of the materials used in manufacture. Origin: They belonged to Mary Chafflyn, heiress to the Zeals estate in Wiltshire, subsequently becoming the property of Lieutenant Colonel Troyte Bullock.
